Best way to control dog hair?

I have a yellow lab and I am vaccuming twice a week all over the house. I dont want to limit the area she can go.....How do I combat her shedding problem?

There is not alot you can do to prevent shedding, but a good regular brushing will help keep it under as much control as possible, use a mixture of brushes, including slicker brushes and combs which will help keep exess fur in check around the house. I use a nasty looking saw like contraption which we got from our local pet store, you will know it when you see it, it an inch wide strip of steel on two handles and has saw like teeth on either side. I have found that this strips alot of the dead hair out of our dog.

Take her to the groomer. There is a ton of undercoat that needs to come out. I have a retriever/collie and holy Hannah he can shed. Usually in clumps. That's my cue it's time to go to PetSmart! lol.

shave her... or groom her... she is trying to get a winter coat now... and if she's inside, she'll just shed...

Vacuum the dog. :) j/k

In all seriousness, you want to brush your dog daily, and ask your vet about anti-shedding supplements. Some of them really work great.

If the dog will stand still for it, you really can vacuum them. It's nearly as good as brushing.

I was pulling my hair out dealing with my dog's hair. A trip to the vet, and we discovered she has hypothyroid, which causes hair loss. She's on medication now, and the vet also suggested dog food with extra omega fats, such as one that IAMS has.

Keeping your house well humidified, and using a dog designed spray on conditioner also helps to keep the hair from floating all over and being staticky.

Best of luck!

Take her to a breeder to get her hair trimmed. Also keep her outside as much as possible since she's trying to get a winter coat. If you want to spend a little money, go to the source below. They have different brushes, shampoos, and other stuff that can help. See the link below. Also you are lucky, I have a black lab and white furniture... they do not mix well.

Brush your dog regulary. I had this SAME problem with my black lab. It was horrible... it was so bad I had to vaccum everyday and sweep twice a day. I went to Wal-Mart and they have this dog coat supplement in carob flavor that dogs love. After a week my labs coat was shiny and pretty and guess what!! no more hair! I was so happy! Give it a try and its less than $5 a bottle. You just put a teaspoon or 2 over their food and they LOVE the taste.

Twice a week? That's it??? Consider yourself lucky!

I have all wood floors and I sweep once in the morning and once at night. My dogs play alot and as they do my Lab mix sheds like there's no tomorrow.

Brush brush brush (although it doesn't really help my dog).

Also try a high quality food like Innova, Wellness or Natural Balance. The better the diet, the healthier the coat.
