My dog's hair is all tangled & I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

I am a weak-hearted person who was never able to hold a scissor next to my dog, Tracey, our 14 year old dog never allowed us to cut her hair, so normally we drug her and get her hair cut every couple of months! Now she's too old, there's a great risk to drugging her at this age! and her hair is just getting worse! SHE WON'T LET ME CUT ANYTHING! I know what you're thinking.. yes she is very spoiled! but it's too late to change now! Any tips or advises would do! I'm getting desperate... Please note that holding scissors next to her makes her all mad and aggressive it's virtually impossible!!

ANYONE???

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

I had a 12 year old Shih Tzu with that problem. I just took her to the vet one day, and they took care of it without drugging her or anything. They're not quite as concerned about looks as they are hygiene, so they shaved her down gently (they're the pros as far as I'm concerned) and from then on I brushed her twice a day, absolutely every single day. I would also spray anti-matting spray in her hair before brushing her. Never had a problem again!

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

Brush brush brush brush brush! If your dog has longer hair that mats and tangles easily brush at least once a week to keep it to a minimum. If your dog is groomed like this regularly it shouldn't be as big a problem. If the scissors makes her aggressive don't use them. Brush out what you can and work on getting the others out. If you really need to use scissors on something muzzle her and give her a light sedative that has been recommend from a vet and have some others help you but only if you really need to. good luck.

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

Um.. take her to the vet to get shaved and brush her regularly and you wont run into this problem.

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

I would suggest using shears..not scissors. My dog doesn't like me grooming her but she does allow the groomers to do it.

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

maybe call a vet and they will suggest what to do. You could also maybe call in a dog groomer that could come to your house.

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

My mom had a similar problem with her Golden Retriever who was 12. He hated to be groomed and brushed. Whenever he got tangeled, she always took him to the vets and had them deal with it. There specially trainted and equipped to deal with pets who have fears of scissors. They know how to calm them and work with them. Take your dog to the vets, or to a professional groomer and have them deal with it. They've gone to school for it and know how to deal with matts and tangles.

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

There is a really simple answer to your question- take her to a professional groomer! My cousin is a professional groomer and she has dealt with dogs with all sorts of behavioral issues. Expain the situation to them, and they will bring the dog in and groom her without drugs or undue stress. This IS the best option for you and your dog, you should do so immediatly!

If you need assistance locating a groomer in your area, just e-mail me. I would be happy to help. Good Luck!

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

Can you bring her to a groomer and maybe they can shave her?

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

I've never tried this, but it sounds like it might work. Spray diluted creme rinse onto her fur and massage in. Then comb out gently, careful not to pull any tangles. When you do get to a tangle, hold it between her skin and the tangled portion. When you pull with the comb be sure to let your hand absorb the force of the pull. Only do small portions at a time. Make it a daily habit so she will hopefully get somewhat used to it.

Good luck!

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

Talk to the groomer. They may be able to do it without the dog being drugged.

Make sure to brush her. There are de-tangling sprays available at Petsmart.

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

Hold her, shave her, and make her behave. She will probaly feel a heck of a lot better clean.

My dog's hair is all tangled %26amp; I'm very worried about her Hygiene!?

As a groomer (and dog trainer) who specializes in difficult and aggressive dogs, I can tell you that at her age, you are limited. Tere are several different methods of sedation and tranquilization out there, ask your vet if they would reccommend any. They have her history and know what she's like. I will not groom a dog over 12 with sedation. Too risky. I prefer not to sedate at all, but after 3 yrs and 10+ trips to the ER, I realized there are sometimes no other options. CAN YOU GET A MUZZLE ON HER??? Petsmart sells them and ask one of their groomers to show you which one will fit and work best. Sometimes they put on a tough show but then realize they are outta luck when it comes down to it and they will settle. One major factor is your behavior if you are intimidated or agressive yourself, it will effect the dog. Be calm cool and get to the point with the scissors/clippers. Good luck to you and feel free to e mail me if you have more ?'s on this

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

lol ok soo my friends dog just ate a whole tube of hair removal cream from tescos. What is the chance the dog will die. The cream is tescos own brand and the dog is a 16 week old english bull terrier.

This is a serious question. I know i find it a little funny but I dont want him to die. What do you think? is the hair removal cream toxic enough??

Thanks

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

Call the Vet now. This is a serious emergency.

Have the tube on hand to take with you.

You may need to make him vomit. The vet can explain. 1 or 2 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide will make him vomit within 5-10 minutes.

This is a SERIOUS emergency. If you read the label, it will tell you what to do if ingested (eaten). Follow those instructions and get your vet on the phone now.

Please hurry and do this. It's a serious problem and waiting is going to make things worse.

Best of luck.

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

The pup should be taken to the vets right away. Poor puppy!

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

I don't know but thats definitely not funny. Read the ingredients. You can call Poison Control and ask them. Or you could call a vet. Most vets won't charge for over-the-phone advice.

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

Probably...... if not!!! Just loss of hair!

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

Hello, ASK A REAL VET..not the kind who claim to be one's in here...also look on the tube, see if there is info on poisioning by this stuff..but definately ASK A REAL VET..a GOOD professional won't be in here answering questions then claim to be one...Take Care :)

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

It's definately worth a call to poison control, or the vet to ask the question.. I wouldn't have called you and got you to ask a bunch of strangers.. I would have called myself to find out if it's a problem. You ever smelled that stuff?? Without reading the label, it's apparent that it's not a good idea to be eating it..

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

the hair removal cream is not not toxic enough to kill the dog but to be on the safe side make sure the dog drinks plenty of water. the dog might throw up but it will be fine

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

He should go to the vet just in case.

He probably won't.

Tell your friend to be prepared to clean up massive amount of vomit or diarrhea.

And if the dog doesn't do that..you got lucky..my dog would've lol.

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

Get off the computer and call the poison control center, there should be a number on the back of the bottle. Your friend probably should not even have a dog. IF the dog is not dead by now, consider finding him a new owner!

Shame on you people

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

Please tell your friend to take the 16 WEEK old dog to the vet. It's not funny at all and you shouldn't joke about it, the dog could be in pain.

I'm sure it's toxic ENOUGH - it's not like the dog would normally have that on it's menu. Be a good friend and make sure the dog sees a vet before it's too late. The dog may need to drink a lot of water to flush it out, or worse. WHO KNOWS - ASK A VET!! :) Please!

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

Give the dog lots of milk. it may help. also in his water put one teaspoon of vinegar in a full bowl of water. Take him to the vet right away. Hair removal burns. Go Now To The Vet .You Got Me Worry.

Dog eating hair removal cream....gunna die??

I've work with animals in the pass; you need to take the dog to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. The hair removal products have acids and other chemicals that are only to be put on skin for a curtain amount of time. And if left on for too long the acids in the products can actually burn the users skin, leaving burns to the 1st, 2nd, or ever 3rd degree if left for way to long. This will happen much quicker if the dog digested this product. Take the dog to the vet, and also call the poisons control number on the box of the cream Hope everything goes well.

I have an Oreck vacuum cleaner and it works well picking up cat hair on my carpets and laminate in the kitchen. It can also be used on wood and tile floors without scratching the floor. They are lightweight, also, with a strong motor.

swiffer vac.

The Dyson Animal. Pricey, but worth it.

I am looking for the best vacuum cleaner for picking up dog hair but can also be used on wood and tile floors?

I couldn't live without my Rainbow! Best I have ever used on carpets and wood floors and linoleum floors and tile floors, especially with dog and cat fur...very expensive but worth every penny...but even better on wood and tile floors is a dry head Swiffer Mop! I love mine terribly!!

I am looking for the best vacuum cleaner for picking up dog hair but can also be used on wood and tile floors?

Hello Donna, I have to say I find the Dyson one of the best hoovers I have ever had, I live in Spain and in most houses and flat楹搒 there is only tiled flooring a wood floors, %26amp; a lot of rugs so they are very good for everything , dust pet hair楹搒 My daughter borrowed my hoover ,she has a dog and she could楹搕 believe how good it was they even used it to clean the car , and went out the same day and bought one, I have to say I found it a bit hard to use when I first got it , but now would楹搕 be without it so I would suggest a Dyson

I am looking for the best vacuum cleaner for picking up dog hair but can also be used on wood and tile floors?

Try the wet and dry vac.

I am looking for the best vacuum cleaner for picking up dog hair but can also be used on wood and tile floors?

A commercial vacuum is the best to buy. You will have to find a store that sells them. Not a department store. They will cost about 200.00 to 250.00 but are worth every penny. Buy a bagless that is easily emptied and you don't have to buy bags all the time. As far as a name brand let the store help you with that.

Good Luck.

I am looking for the best vacuum cleaner for picking up dog hair but can also be used on wood and tile floors?

Vacuum cleaners are not good for wood and tile floors, since the beater bar can damage the floor. There is a cordless rechargeable vacuum made by shark that works well for picking up dog hair on all floor surfaces. The beater bar does not turn as quickly as an electric vacuum so it does not damage the flooring.

I am looking for the best vacuum cleaner for picking up dog hair but can also be used on wood and tile floors?

The Roomba (a robotic vacuum) is a great choice for people with pets...and has the bonus of turning it on and letting it go...while you're at work, etc. Like any good vacuum cleaner, it's pricey, but no bags to buy, and no heavy thing to lug around!

Kirby vaccuum

Dyson makes the dc17 animal which is great for pet hair. It is also designed for easy transition from carpets to hard floor. Won't damage wood or tile floors. There's a full write up at http://vacuum-better.com/dyson-dc17-revi...

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

about 3 weeks a family member got a wild hair and moved, leaving their golden retriever behind. when i heard about this i went and got the dog, which couldnt hardly walk because of its lack of energy, limping on its front legs, and had a big patch of hair missing on its upper back with scabs all over, and one swollen raised lump in that same hairless area. since ive been feeding the dog the last couple days its energetic again and able to walk fine, but the hair problem still persists. i dont have money to take somebody elses dog to the vet as my own dog costs enough, so does anybody know what condition this is and how i can treat it?

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

it sounds like mange to me. u say u can't afford another dog, so either find it a new home or take it to the pound so he can get some medical attention as he really needs it. i don't think there is anything in the pet stored u can buy but take him there and see if u can afford some otc meds. , if they have anything.good luck

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

I agree it sounds like mange. It is sad that it was left.

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

i don't really know but this is a very dangerous situation

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

As the others mentioned, it is probably mange. You can go to a farm supply store and get a mange dip. It will work on the sarcoptic mange and on fleas and ticks if it has any. It doesn't cost very much. I would try that first. you will have to do 2-3 applications. If it doesn't cure it, you will either have to take him to the vet or give him to the ASPCA or someone who can care for it.

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

It could be mange, but a vet really needs to check. There are several forms of mange, a couple which are highly contagious and one that is hereditary and not contagious.

You can put the dog on a premium dog food to boost it's immune system, but with all what's going on with that dog, I'd turn him over to a no-kill shelter so he can get proper vet care.

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

It will take the dog a while to recover, be patient. I have seen a dog so malnurished he still had his winter coat in August! It took a very long time to get him looking healthy again... and they can have long term health concerns from the neglect. Check with a vet to be sure his blood count is good, and he is worm free.

Dog losing hair after malnutrition?

IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD THE DOG, THEN SURRENDER IT TO THE SPCA AND TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY WILL PROVIDE THE NECCESARY MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR THE DOG. YOUR BILL COULD RUN IN THE UPPER HUNDREDS TO GET HIM HEALTHY AGAIN.

What is the absolute best vacuum cleaner to pick up dog hair?

I have dark red carpet, ceramic tile and hardwood floor in my home. I use swiffer when I can, but every vacuum I get is worn out and starts to clog up and smell within a few months. Granted, I've bought the Bissels, Hoovers and Dirt Devils, but I need something that works but isn't the cost of a small car!

I have an electrolux sweeper and it is the very best. Check your local home supply store for one. They are not as expensive as you would think.

What is the absolute best vacuum cleaner to pick up dog hair?

Try to find a carpet rake - it looks like a giant plastic comb on a mop handle - and rake the hair off the carpet before vacuuming. I think I paid less than 10.00 for mine, but I can't remember where I bought it. It works great - I have four cats and five dogs, who all shed like crazy, and I don't know what I would do if I didn't have this thing.

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

My dogs shed horribly. I sweep my floors several times per day and it never seems to end. My furniture is full of hair. I have even invested in a jumbo lint roller, but that is't even helping!!!!

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

There is this great under-coat rake call the "shed ender" and it works really well. We use it on our cat and our dogs. You can buy it off of ebay or maybe there is even a shed ender site.

Good luck!

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

I dont know what kind of dog you have but I have a golden retriever and I know what you mean, butif you get what is called a "rake" undercoat brush that will help getting exsess hair off your dog. I use it and it helps alot, you will never get it all if you alow the dog free rain of teh house but it helps alot, make sure you use it every day!!!!

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

Sorry...your dog is a shedder and the only way you will be able to stop it is to find him a new home. Awww...hopefully that is not an option! :)

Fortunately, there are some things you can try to help ease the situation. Keep your dog well-groomed. Brush him daily and bathe him on a regular basis. Try adding omega fatty acids to his food to keep his coat and skin healthy.

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

First off, how old is your dog?

Next just some information:

Most dogs shed. Sometimes, it will never be cured. The only thing you can do is comb them, using a really fine comb, maybe even a flea comb. You can find tons of types at the pet stores. You will need to get out all the loose fur this way.

You can also use some great shampoo's you can get from the vet's. You can call them up to see what they recommend.

Next, You must also consider, food allergies, thyroid issues, and fleas.

These things can cause many fur and skin problems.

The only real way to figure it out is to get an exam at the vet's.

If not, this problem will continue and only thing you can do is clean and comb.

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

A good coat of varnish on the dog should do the job!

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

You know, I have a few tricks for you. . . .first, I cover my furniture when no guests are around, with throws that I can remove and wash. I also use slipcovers.

Also, invest in an inexpensive little Dirt Devil hand-held vac. It is GREAT. I have one upstairs for bathroom floors, and one downstairs for the kitchen, etc. I use a large vacuum too on my hardwood floors - the broom just picks up static and moves the hair around.

Brushing your dogs daily will also help some.

I have 3 large dogs (one long haired and another who sheds a LOT), and two cats. . . I have learned to ignore it. I don't clean it every day . . . life is too short. I don't let it make me crazy. . . But I don't let it get too out of control either, because then it's hard to clean up.

I don't wear dark clothes in the house. I change before I leave the house, even to run to the store - don't want fur on the clothes to scare people. LOL

Try to relax about it a bit. The dogs are worth it! To be without them would be worse. Get a Dirt Devil hand vac!!

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

Dogs shed by nature you can't stop it but you can reduce it by having a good quality shampoo/conditioner and proper grooming and often, very often if need be with a proper brush/rake.

Depending on the breed of the dog, if it's not known as being a shedder have it checked by the vet..it may have some underlying health issues causing to shed excessively.

You may also consider training your dog not to go on the furniture or use throw blankets on the furniture to be able to wash them easily... overstock.com has some nice ones..I just bought 24 fleece throws for $100.

Or get a good vaccum.

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

I wish I knew what kind of dogs, since then I could make grooming suggestions. I have three dogs, a Great Pyrenees, a brindle lab-Akita cross and a Jack Russell terrier. We have hair, too! I just got a micro-fiber mop head. I have several of the cloths for the mop, so I can use it wet or dry and then wash the cloth in the machine.

For the dogs themselves: for the Pyrenees, I use a wire slicker brush, for the lab cross I use a metal comb, for the terrier %26lt;flat coat%26gt; I use a rubber curry type comb. It works well on the lab cross too.

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

while there are several good products out there to help with shedding, shedding can occur for a number of reasons.(1.) Poor diet.(2.) skin allergies or irritations as dry skin. I could go on, but the list is very long. Usually these two problems are the more common ones. give your vet a call(doesn't cost to call) and ask his opinion. Also if you bath your dog to often that can also lead to dry skin and shedding. I hope this has been helpful. good luck!

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

Give it up. Dogs shed.

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

The type of dog you have can determine what steps you can take to lessen shedding. For all dogs: DIET can play a role in excessive shedding. Your dog may need a different brand of dog food AND some supplements. I have a Golden mix that used to be a big shedder until I got her on the right food for her and added some Supplements. She takes NutraVed and 3V Skin Caps from the Vet. The 3V has Omega three, Vit A, D and E.

Add to that brushing your dog regularly with the right brush for the breed.

Some dogs need a shedding blade especially in Spring and Summer.

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

Start cleaning or get rid of the dogs

How can I keep my furniture and vinyl floors free from dog hair? My dogs shed horribly!?

i have hardwood floors and an akita,he sheds a poodle a day. i use a stick vacuum every day to keep up ,it only takes about twenty minutes.i put sheets on my furniture, hair doesn't stick to them to bad,you just shake them out before you vacuum.it's either that or put him out.i love him to much for that.
