I have a yellow lab and his fur has clogged my vaccume up so bad i can't get it unclogged and now i have to play car wash and vaccume my rug with a small shop vac. how can i keep this from happening when i get a new vaccume? it wasn't even the type of vaccume because i borrowed my step-daughter's and i clogged that one too! what do i do!!!!help!

Try putting cheesecloth or a pantyhose leg over a vacuum hose this will catch the hair and trap it so you can just discard the cloth/pantyhose with the offending dog hair in it.

Sorry to give you the bad news, but you can't. If you don't purchase an expensive vaccume that can "handle" the hair problem, such as a Kerby you will just keep going through vaccume after vaccume.

I imagine there are other expensive brands that claim to be able to "handle" hair, but I just mention Kerby because I know someone who bought one for the same reason as you. She has had it problem free for the last 8 years. Personally I would think the extra $$$ would be worth it.

Sounds like you don't vacuum often enough. Instead of once in a while and clogging up the vac. Do it more often so you don't get so much at one time. Please don't get the wrong Idea, I'm not saying your not clean. We all have busy lives and sometimes things get put aside. I do it myself. Just make a conscious effort to vacuum more often. If one dog is causing the clog, either you never vacuum or never brush the dog. (or both) They don't shed that much and if he does shed enough to clog a vacuum, take him to the Vet.

He should be brushed every day and bathed once a month. You should be able to vacuum two to three times a week and get away with that.

And welcome to my world...I have three Labbies. And I've gone through a few vacs myself. It's can be pricey but try the Dyson. I don't have one yet, but I used an in-laws and it works great.

I am a breeder of Cocker Spaniels and I have the very same problem. I have burnt up two vacuum cleaners. I finally bought a Rainbow Vacuum cleaner and I do not have that problem anymore. Guess I must love my dogs to spend $2000 on a new vac.

On another note. I was shopping in Pet Smart recently and they had a brush type thing that you could sweep across your carpets before you vacuum to pick up all of the dog hair. This was designed particularly for that purpose. I saw it in the grooming section. I dont think it was unreasonably priced either. You might try it. I looked on their website but couldn't find it just now. Good Luck
