It could be a lot of things ranging from allergies to mange to ring worm. I would suggest taking it to the vet. They can run some simple test (skin scrape) to see what is going on with you dog. If any one in your family is itching I would definitely take it in because ring worm and one type of mange (sarcoptic) is transmittable to humans and can make you itchy. Good luck

yes it can. so can other things. please don't listen to the previous post-er and buy some ointment from petsmart. it could be allergies, demodex (a congenital mange), sarcoptic mange (contagious to people and other pets), thyroid conditions...the list goes on. your dog will likely get a secondary skin infection, if he doesn't already, and will need antibiotics to prevent/treat that. please see your vet.

mites, fleas, larvae... take the dog to the vet.. the dog may have flea allergies... the vet gives the animal an allergy shot... the smell would go away when rash clears (caused by the dog biting itself) the vet will give the dog cream for the dogs rash... don't hesitate... take the animal to the vet
