Where can I get dog hair knitted into a jumper?

I know this is a bit of a weird one but I'm asking on behalf of someone.... honest!

She adores her dogs and has been collecting their hair so that she can have a jumper knitted from it.

Does anyone out there know where she can go to get this done?

I found this page that has links for people who want their dog hair prepared and spun.

If they just make it into yarn, you can ask any elderly woman in your town if they can knit a jumper and pay her for it. I'm sure you'll find one who'll be happy to do it.

Tell her to take a knitting class and do it herself because thats a very weird request and it isnt worth finding some stranger to accomplish such a personal, weird thing. Lol good luck to your friend.

This will probably be a smelly jumper.

Try this book: Knitting With Dog Hair: Better A Sweater From A Dog You Know and Love Than From A Sheep You'll Never Meet (Paperback)

by Kendall Crolius

It's available on Amazon.com or your local library can borrow a copy for you (if they don't own one.)

Try doing some research on Wenda Gu, who creates art out of hair. He might have some tips!

Failing that, I'd find a small yarn company and ask them to make the yarn for me.

Added: I'm surprised at all the negative reactions. Sure, it's "out there", but I don't think anyone should be saying it's gross or immoral. We're not talking about skinning the dogs alive! Don't YOU guys wear woollen items? Sheep aren't immune from bugs and critters you know!

I have to laugh at all the people who think this is gross and eww..what about fleas?

Do you not know where wool comes from that goes into sweaters? Umm..sheep who are filthy, have crap hanging off their butts, and smell! lol It all gets cleaned people.

I actually have a few customers who have me save their dogs hair everytime I groom them...they spin themselves tho.

I had the fur from my Samoyed spun into yarn. If you or her know someone who has sheep, alpacas or angora rabbits you could ask them to spin it or show her how to do it herself. Depending on the breed of dog it will make some really nice yarn. As for the knitting, she should learn how to do it herself. It will be much more satisfying than paying someone else to do it. One word of warning, if it gets wet it will smell like wet dog.

Ew.

That being said, you should contact a knitting company, local yarn manufacturer, weavers. These people can direct you (her)

Later: Can someone clue me in, why am I getting all these thumbs down?

In the loony bin, where she SO obviously belongs... Imagine it rained- have you ever smelled wet dog fur?

And if she loves dogs so much, why would she be willing to steal their coats? It cruel and IT MAKES NO SENSE!
