Nothing, really. Invest in a quality dog brush and use it on him daily (outside, of course). Other than that, just vacuum often.

The only sure fire way to keep dog hair off the carpet is to not have a dog. To be a dog owner you have to sort of accept that no matter how often you brush your dog, clean your house, and/or do your laundry you will have dog hair everywhere. It will be on your clothes (light hairs on dark clothes; dark hair on light clothes), on your carpet, on your furniture (even if the dog isn't allowed on the furniture) and sometimes it will even be in your food. Such is life, I personally would rather have some dog hair floating about than give up my baby; so there it is.
