Can dog hair be a great source of dietary fiber?

OK, I am just kidding, really.

My real question is about shedding.

We have a Border Collie/ Sheltie mix that we adopted from the shelter a couple of months ago. She is shedding insane amounts of hair (I am pretty sure we can build another dog out of the hair I have cleaned up) and I realize this is normal during summer. I know she will still shed during the winter, but will it be a lot or will it chill out a bit?

Shelties are double-coated and "blow" their coats twice a year, resulting in unbelievable amounts of hair. Your sheltie mix is probably double-coated as well, so you can expect heavy shedding like you're seeing now once or twice per year. Illness, pregnancy, diet and other factors can affect how often a dog sheds its undercoat.

it will probably slow down cuz she will be growing more hair instead of sheding it.

good luck!!!

My border collie is 15 and she sheds all the time - spring, summer, fall.

I too could build another dog from her shed from just a single season. It's amazing how much hair she sheds. It's everywhere.

She sheds more in the spring/summer than the winter/fall - but she still sheds.

BUT - she's worth it.

Brush your baby daily - outside, please.

Brush her outside and let the hair fly....especially in spring when the birds ar building nests. They will clean that hair up in a matter of minutes. They love it!!

Your border collie/sheltie is going to shed continuously. Save the hair (if you want) and set out small amounts each day, in the spring, for the birds.

These types of dogs shed gobs and gobs of hair. They have an undercoat as well as an outer coat. That's why they invented the dog brush. When you own a long haired dog, you MUST brush it daily. If you are not willing to put the time into brushing, don't own a long haired breed. All dogs shed, especially in the summer months when it's hot. It just comes with the territory. Dogs that are kept outside don't shed as readily as dog kept in the warm house. People also shed their hair daily. I bet you brush your hair every day.
