Have you tried taking him there a few times without being groomed.. Getting him used to the car, and the grooming shop.. Things go well, he doesn't get hurt.. He goes home. Then one day you take him and he gets groomed.. Slowly desensitizing him to the whole thing. You could spend more time socializing him to people and places in the meantime. This should have been done when he was young tho, When they are more open to meeting new people and going new places.. This is why socialization is very important. You might think that you are happy w/ your dog at home, but one day you will need to take him some place and find it nearly impossible...

I used to work as a groomer. You'd be surprised how much better the dogs act once the owner is away! Some dogs act up more in the owner's presence to try to "get away with it".. kinda like how a toddler throws a fit when mom drops him off at day care.. but the minute she leaves he's playing with the other kids just fine!

Try to find someone that grooms from their home. Your dog will get more individual attention, you can probably stay with him %26amp; he may learn that a grooming is like a day at the spa. My groomer knows how I am about my dogs %26amp; my dogs like her so well that all I have to do is open the car door %26amp; they run to the door.

If you can't find someone to help, the only other choice you may have (not the best) is to find a groomer that works at a vets office. That way if needed they can give him some meds to relax him %26amp; get him over his fears.

If your dog is comfortable with you I would recommend cutting it yourself. Shears are pretty cheap and it's not that hard just takes alittle time the first few times. I've heard that some groomers can be rough and can led to a frightening experience for your pet.

If you must use a groomer never use one who doesn't allow you to be with your dog during the process. Avoid "chain" groomers they often will hire inexperienced groomers. Your vet may know of a good safe groomer near you as well.

You could buy a shaver or clippers and do it yourself. Its not very hard. I cut my dogs hair sometimes.
