i need to give my dog a bath...she lives outside and shes dirty...i am going to take her to petsmart today and i want to bathe her before i go but she has VERY thick fur like a spitz type breed i dont want to put her outside to dry as she might get sick since it has been snowing for 2 days here. can i use a hair dryer on her if i keep it on low and hold it far away from her so it wont make her too hot? or i could put it on cool
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
Yes you can but remember not to scare your dog, get it used to hearing the hairdryer in the background then gradually get closer with it.
Use the LOW/COOL setting and keep it moving, don't hold it in one spot as this will burn. Avoid the face area during the first few times you dry the dog as they can find hot air and noise blasting around their head unpleasant.
I would advise buying a dog hair dryer (they can be picked up for LESS than a human one) they are designed not to overheat and burn out when used for long periods of time and are quieter too (it will take a lot longer to dry your dogs hair than your own.) normal human hairdryers are only designed to be used in short bursts and don't take kindly to being used for prolonged periods of time
Towel dry your dog first to remove excess water from the coat and make it a pleasant experience by heaping your dog with praise and NOT holding it down.

Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
Towel dry her alot first.. let her dry of herself and run around in your house [she's clean right] Then bust out the hair dyer and dry that puppy out !!!!!
put it on low though..
dogs can't speak so you wont know if it burns them or not !!!
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
Yes you can dry your dog with ur hair dryer it will not harm the dog. But I would use a towel instead something might happen. And it might be bad but I don't think that it would harm them at all.
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
Yes, but keep it on LOW, or it will scorch your dog's skin
or just use a towel :)
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
yes. on low, not to close, and not in one spot for long.
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
Yes. In fact, most professional dog groomers who cannot afford the fancy drying machines use a regular hand-held blow dryer.
Like you said, just put it low and hold it further away because it's hard for your dog to tell you if it burns until you've already caused skin damage.
Sorry about all the snow!
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
You can put it on the lowest setting, and if you have it... "warm" instead of "hot." She'll be just fine! =) She may even like it. Just don't get too close to her, and check the heat on you wrist to make sure it's not too warm. How close you can get it to your wrist without being too warm is how close you can get it to her body.
Also, why does she LIVE outside? Especially in the winter while it's snowing? Yes, she has long hair... but is she a family dog? If so, she deserves some human contact and love. Wet or not, she can still get too cold outside.

Why do you have a dog if it just lives outside? Yes, it would be too cold. If it's too cold for you then it's too cold for your dog. It is ok to use a hair dryer but don't concentrate in an area for too long. Keep it moving. Keep the dog inside until it is thoroughly dry.
I don't understand people that make their animals live outside. What is the point? You are missing out. I have a dog and 2 cats. They are indoors most of the time. The cats live indoors. The dog is in and out but with us most of the time.
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
yes you can. i have a pomeranian and he loves it when he justs gets out of the tub for me to dry him with a blowdryer. hold it far from the dog so you don't burn her. also if your blowdryer has a cool setting put that on.
Can i dry my dog with my hair dryer?
Like everyone's said, keep it on low and keep it moving so ur not in one spot too long..only 2-3 seconds. Also, if you happen to have a diffuser for your dryer, that'd help. My dog HATES the dryer and tries to bite at the air.

As soon as my dog hears the shower running, he heads for it and I give him a shower at least 1/wk. I use a vet conditioner on him after washing. I wrap him in a tower and dry, best I can. Thn I put the towel on floor and he comes and lays on it while I BLOW dry him. I brush him at the same time as blowing. He loves it!! My dryer has cool warm and hot settings. I keep it on warm in winter and cool in summer. Good luck, just don't get too close to ears.

I would be concerned that if she doesn't tolerate the dryer, what will you do with her? She can't be outside in the cold while wet.....
Perhaps wait until better weather for your trip to the store.

I want to add something else to those answers about drying the dog with the hair dryer: take care don't apply it to its face, dry it with the towel as far as the ears, because doggies afraid too much, and the ears is very important don't to be wet.
