Fleas LIVE on the animal. They may jump off briefly but they do live on animals.

They may live in the enviroment WAITING on a host to come along that they can jump onto and live on...but I assure you that they live on animals!

Okay... being that I do pest control... i can answer this... NO problem. The guy above me is right. They do attach themselves to either an animal or a person for food. They drink blood. But they can live in furiniture, on your pets, in the carpet, under the base boards. Anywhere it is dark and they can hide. They also live outside in the dirt and shrubbery around the house or yard. It's best to have the animal, the house and the yard treated once and then again in two weeks. You must vacuume everyday and make sure you wash all bedding, stuffed animals, etc. that you or your pet my use. Also... you should keep the yard mowed and debris out of the floor and yard. my hairless dog does not have a problem with fleas unless the other animals in the home have fleas.

Fleas will jump on him and bite, and when there are fleas in the home I will find some in his little bit of hair. He does not pick them up as easily as the other pets in the home tho. I do not know if its because he is hairless, or because of the grooming products I use on his skin.

Fleas actually nest in carpet and upholstry tho, not on your pets. So if you have a major flea infestation, you will need to treat your carpets and pet bedding.
