I adore the furminator - you can buy it and special de-shedding shampoo and all that at Petsmart or Petco. It's pretty amazing.

I know a lot of people like the furminator. It gets down to the undercoat and pulls that all up. However with all those dogs and especially the goldens I don't know if even the furminator can help you. I am just used to the dog hair. Our vacuum runs pretty constantly. We only have bassets but they shed as well and its a constant in our lives we've learned to live with.

You have to groom them A LOT. You can't really stop it since almost every dog has to. But try the 'Groomax庐 Shedding Comb with Soft Grip Handle'

It's at Petsmart or Petco

The Zoom Groom made by Kong is fantastic. Many of the brushes only work well on long haired breeds, but the Zoom Groom is awesome on my shorthaired dogs and it's only about $8. http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=36...

You're on the right track asking about a brush.

Shedding is natural and nothing you do will change the amount they shed (assuming they are healthy). We humans shed, too, and if you look at the floor you'll find human hair in the mix unless all humans who live and visit your home are bald. You just need to control it.

Bathing, brushing and other grooming is an excellent first step. Since you have a variety of fur types, different tools will work better for those different types. Probably no one brush will do it all, and what works for me might not work so well for you, so you'd be better off experimenting. Honestly, you'd be amazed at how much loose fur you can remove simply by petting them head to tail with just your hands! Bathing them regularly with a gentle shampoo and grooming (brushing, combing, de-matting, etc.) at least once a week should definitely remove much of the loose fur and help you keep ahead of any major shedding.

The last step is regular vacuuming of your home. Vacuum surfaces (floors, furnature, drapes) once a week (after grooming the dogs) and you should be good to go.

Yes, it's a lot of work, but the dogs should enjoy the grooming and it is a great time to bond.
