What do I do when my dog eats human hair?

one time my dog threw up and i realized there were a few hair strings bunched up together....i found out how he ate my hair sheddings.... whenever i would throw his treats on the carpet he would eat it and then lick the crumbs off the floor.... and now i'm wondering if i can take it out of him somehow because whenever he runs he chokes up like he has something down his throat but it won't come out....i'm really worried because i love my dog and now i'm extra careful not to have hair sheddings around the carpet or anywhere else... so pleasee pleaseeeeee help me!!!!! or does it come out of his poop?

uh...if he's getting it all off the carpet then you're definitely going to want to vacuum the carpet- there shouldn't be enough on the carpet to make him throw up. after he's eaten it there's not much you can do.

He should pass any hair accidentally eaten through his stool. I would make sure to vacuum often, to prevent your dog form ingesting the hairs while eating snacks. Other than that, if he is having problems with excessive panting, gagging when running, a visit to a good vet is in order, just to get the problem checked out. It may be nothing- our dog would get super excited while playing, and would gag up sometimes... but just to be safe, you should make sure to get the dog into the vet. He may have eaten something else besides that they may be giving him problems.

My dog would throw up or poop out big clumps of hair and rope. When I went to the vet and asked about it she said that I had to first figure out where he is getting the hair and rope from. After closely following him for a few days, we realized that he was chewing on his rope toys and swallowing the rope from that. Also, he found a way under the couch and since we have hardwood floors there were hairballs under there, I never thought to mop under there but dogs can get into anything. It's just one of those things you don't think about. After you identify where he is getting the hair from then get rid of it. In your case he's getting it from the carpeting and maybe even in corners or places you just dont' think to mop or vacuum. Nowadays I mop the entire house and vacuum everyday so there are no hairballs, plus he doesn't get the have rope toys unsupervised. After he clears out what he has already ingested, as long as he's not eating up more hair, he will eventually not have this problem. If he is still choking you should see your vet because it might be a different problem.

OK, dogs will eat grass and other green plants if they are outside. They need something besides straight food. I don't think it hurts the dog to eat the hair. Cats are the same - they eat grass. I used to have a dog that would eat anything, and I mean a-ny-thing. That dog was very healthy, but just gross. I definitely didn't want him licking my body anywhere. I sold him to some kids for 25 cents.
