Dog loosing his hair?

Okay, My dog who is 12. He is a shih tzu. The last 2 month his hair has been thinin and i have been struggling with his allergies. He has flea dermatitus (acording to the vet, he has had it all his life) He gets depo shots to help the symptoms. But this is the first time his hair has gotten that bad. He also has tape worms i found out and in a few days im gonna get the meds to treat them. He still is a bit itchy but not as near as itchy as he was. He doesnt have mange. Do you think maybe the tape worms and his allergies could be causing it or one or the other? Or maybe something else?

Tapeworms are caused by ingesting fleas so I bet he still has them. You may not be seeing them because he is cleaning and/or chewing at the spots and taking care of them. There are some other diseases that can cause hair lose talk tot he vet more if it persist.

The allergies (skin problems) can cause thinning hair. Hypothyroidism (low thyroid) can also be a problem. If he hasn't been tested, you might consider having it checked.

i think the flea thing is causing it

Sounds like it could be hot spots, my Malamute had this once after getting wet, apparently because of the amount of fur their skin doesnt get the chance to dry properly, causing the irritation. It was cleared up in a couple of weeks with a medicated cream from the vet.

Hope this helps.

It may be food allergy, corn or wheat in the dry kibble is not good.Maybe you could try a new food slowly and alleviate some of the symphony.Hope your lovely dog is better soon.
